I have ambivalent feelings about blogging. There are so many other things I should be writing. And, who wants to read about archaeology from my point of view anyway? But there are many archaeology and anthropology blogs out there that I really enjoy (many listed on my links page). And, blogging and other social media are a great way to share works in progress with the wider world. As I lecture about archaeologists’ responsibilities to the public and the challenges of communicating archaeology effectively outside of the discipline, I think about my own efforts on this front. While outreach has always been a big part of my work I still struggle with translating technical material into a non-specialist/public-friendly format.
So, I thought I would use this space to practice writing for a more general audience. And, it will serve as a space to share on-going work that my students and I are doing in the lab, field and classroom. And, so, without further ado…on to blog post 2.
